TK's simple guide to the Brisbane Broncos fantasy prospects for 2025.
With the addition of new coach Michael Maguire can see a much more disciplined and hardened approach across the team. The blokes even banned shirts off at training so they ain't messing around. The squad is full of guns and if they remain injury free they will challenge again for the finals.
Prediction - On paper they make the 8 but I have doubts here
Broncos 2025 Player Movements
2025 Gains |
Ben Hunt (St George Illawarra Dragons) |
2025 Loses |
Ethan O'Neill (Leigh Leopards), Corey Oates (retired), Jordan Pereira (retired), Tristan Sailor (St Helens Saints) |

Fairly predictable line up for round 1. We could see Cobbo continue in the centres which would be a switch with Mariner. The other spots up for grabs would be starting hooker and the bench make up.
The Draw and Game Day Squad
Byes - round round 12, 15, 20
Game Day Squad allows a true focus on weekly match ups. The opening to the season could see some attacking flare from the likes of Reece Walsh and Selwyn Cobbo.

NRL Fantasy perspective
With a first bye deep at round 12, one of Haas or Carrigan will be a perfect gun option to lead your MIDS. With a round 20 bye, a few fun options like Walsh then come into play.
Fantasy relevant players for round 1 - Payne Haas, Reece Walsh, Jack Gosiewski, Corey Paix, Kobe Hetherington
2025 Fantasy Fortunes (slide across for full notes)
Player | Price | NRL Fantasy Av | GameDay Squad Av | Notes |
Payne Haas | $825K | 60.9 | 62.4 | Will always be a relevant choice. Given the Broncos don't have a bye till round 12 put serious consideration in starting the season with him but for me I prefer Yeo. |
Pat Carrigan | $770K | 57.4 | 54.1 | Another great fantasy season and will be relevant during the season, I just prefer Haas. Given value in the MID position, avoid for round 1 |
Reece Walsh | $700K | 50.1 | 55.6 | The big question is if a Hunt/Reynolds combination will see any upside in Walshy. Does look fully priced for the opening round but always a fun option to own. Watchlist |
Corey Jensen | $624K | 46.8 | 46.9 | If Haas and or Carrigan are out of the team long term this guy has significant fantasy relevance. Had 5 games over 60 mins in 2024 where he averaged 64.4 fantasy points. Not relevant if the Broncos are full strength. |
Adam Reynolds | $622K | 46.6 | 49.4 | Had his lowest fantasy average since 2017 as injuries started to plague the veteran. The arrival of Ben Hunt is likely going to see another decline in output. Avoid |
Selwyn Cobbo | $549K | 41.2 | 45.5 | Switch to the CTR saw his try scoring significantly decline. Even with a position swap, looks fully price for round 1. Avoid |
Jordan Riki | $541K | 40.5 | 38.4 | Has ranged around a 40 average for the past 3 seasons. No reason to see any improvement. Avoid |
Kotoni Staggs | $525K | 37.3 | 38.1 | 3 very similar years of fantasy output. Not much upside to his current value. Avoid |
Deine Mariner | $486K | 36.4 | 39.6 | Likely to move back to the centres with an impressive end to the season. Averages 37.1 CTR vs 35.9 Wing but looks fully priced for round 1 |
Xavier Willison | $485K | 36.3 | 36.4 | Will likely start as backup to Haas and Jensen. Relevant if he starts at any point. In 4 games starting he averaged 49.3 fantasy points in 46 mins. Watchlist |
Tyson Smoothy | $452K | 33.8 | 34.1 | Despite being a back up he did play decent minutes (av 44.8). Will likely fight it out for a bench role but not fantasy relevant. |
Billy Walters | $425K | 31.9 | 28.7 | Under huge pressure to hold his spot in the team. Unlikely to be fantasy relevant any way. Avoid |
Ezra Mam | $450K | 31.7 | 32.2 | Suspended for a large chunk of the season and may struggle to get his starting spot back. Avoid |
Josh Rogers | $416K | 31.2 | 29 | Will back up the veterans but unlikely to be relevant at any point. Averaged 45.1 in the Q Cup |
Kobe Hetherington | $414K | 31 | 30.6 | Another that Madge has fallen in love with and looking at starting at lock. Would have slight upside as a starter and I have more faith in Kobe than Paix or Jack G. Price isn't bad to take a punt. Watchlist. |
Martin Taupau | $401K | 30 | 29.4 | At the back end of his career and even making the 21 squad would be an achievement. Avoid |
Fletcher Baker | $398K | 29.8 | 27 | Failed to live up to preseason promise and fell further behind in the mid rotation. Avoid unlikely to be releavnt |
Brendan Piakura | $400K | 29.6 | 27.3 | Could have a small amount of value if he can stay healthy. Averaged 32.7 in games over 70 mins (2024) and 38.3 (2024). The big questions is can he improve his defensive issues and we probably haven't seen his best in attack. Looks to have lost his starting role. Avoid |
Jaiyden Hunt | $382K | 28.6 | 25.8 | Even as a starter he didn't do much in production. Avoid. |
Jesse Arthars | $346K | 25.9 | 28.5 | Missed a fair chunk of the middle season with injury. Unlikely to make any fantasy improvement. Avoid |
Blake Mozer | $337K | 25.3 | 24.1 | Would be putting presure on Walters for the starting role. In 13 Q cup games he averaged 47.2 points with most games seeing him play over 60 minutes. Injury has delayed his start to the season. |
Ben Te Kura | $250K | 21.7 | 21.9 | If he makes the team would likely be more a low minute role. Averaged 35.3 fantasy points in the Q Cup. Avoid |
Josiah Karapani | $270K | 20.2 | 21.6 | Has a 32.6 average in his 5 starting games so does have value if he was to jag a long term starting spot. But that’s the issue, he would need a signficant injury to be relevant. Averaged 35.9 in the Q Cup. |
Jack Gosiewski | $250K | 14 | 13.1 | Back up at best with very little fantasy relevance but Madge has has fallen in love with him. I do have fears that the coach is using him to fire up Piakura and you could head into trap city. Avoid |
Delouise Hoeter | $437K | 0 | 0 | Unlikley to get any game time. Only 3 games in Q Cup averaging 36.7 fantasy points. Avoid |
Israel Leota | $230K | 0 | 0 | Still a very young centre yet to make his Q Cup debut. Unlikely to be relevant in 2025. Watchlist |
Corey Paix | $300K | 0 | 0 | Has fallen well behind in the hooker pecking order. In 20 Q Cup games he averaged 41 fantasy points. Is an interesting option that Madge looks to prefer. $300k starting hooker is never bad but be comfortable he is a trap. Watchlist |
Coby Black | $230K | 0 | 0 | 18 year old half back who would be a bit away from starting the the NRL. 5 games in Q Cup for 40.6 average. Watchlist |
Ben Hunt | $681K | 51 | 48.4 | Playing in the halves with Reynolds, he will drop kick quite signifciantly. Had a very high TA av of 1.4 which might also be in jeapody, add a potential positional change when Mam returns and a bit to much going on here. Avoid |
