NRL Fantasy recommendation - Buy Stefano Utoikamanu

It’s no secret that I think big Stefano Utoikamanu will be a gun for the future and could even be as soon as 2021. He is bottom dollar at $246 000 which has his BE at just 18 and my interest is joined by 11% of fantasy coaches.


Now there is not a lot of data to go off for Utoikamanu with only 2 games last year (his 3rd game was for less than a minute and included no stats). In those 2 games he had a PPM of 1.2 and if he can get those 30-35 minutes off the bench he could be looking at a nice price rise of +$230 000.


In his trial against the roosters it was reported Utoikamanu made 27 tackles for no misses and in his most recent trial against the tigers he scored 23 for what I had at no more than 30 minutes (if that).


The tigers look set to run with Liddle at hooker and then either have Mbye or Simpkins in the 14 jersey. If this is the case it should point towards more minutes to the middle forwards and makes that 30-35 minutes realistic with Utoikamau looking likely to be starting off the bench.


He is down the pecking order (for now) with some quality middles in the tigers squad including Twal, Tamou, Mikaele, Ofahengaue, Packer and Musgrove. However with the big wraps he is getting, most notably Freddy Fitler and his inclusion in the emerging blues squad earlier this year I see him increasing his minutes as the year progresses.


If nothing else he is a great cheap MID pick up who should be a slow burn money maker that can take one of your emergency spots.
