NRL Fantasy recommendation - Buy Brian Kelly

With the centre position being such an underwhelming points producer in 2020 we are all on the lookout for some consistency at the position.

One player I identified last year as a player of promise for 2021 was Titans centre Brian Kelly. The 24 year old from Lismore originally started in the Titans 20’s system before shifting to Manly where he made his debut in 2017. He has shown plenty of promise particularly with his ability to break tackles (average of 3 per game in 2020) and use his pace to either score a try or create for others.

Looking at his stats for 2020, he averaged 34.6 from his 16 games where he 6 trys. The stats are a little deceiving though, as he started 3 games from the wing, 1 from the interchange and 12 from the centres. Round 17 against the Bulldogs he also only played 11 minutes before coming off injured.

So a further breakdown of his stats, his average was 36.6 and if you take out the Bulldogs game is 40 with a PPM of 0.51. Of the four games he was on the winning side he averaged 51 and when on the losing side he averaged 31. Given their back end to the season and recruitment drive you’d be anticipating many more Titans wins in 2021.

Kelly was also owned by less than 1% of fantasy coaches last year.

His averages from the previous 2 seasons are as follows:

2019 - 35.9 (all games centre)

2018 - 29.3 (all games centre)

I am projecting Kelly to be a force this year and average around 45. His opening price is $464,000 which is great value in a less than stellar position.

Kelly is my centre to watch in 2021, what’s your thoughts and projections on Kelly this year?
